Manga Library
The Manga Library was established in November 2002 as part of Monash University's Japanese Studies Centre and caters to both the needs of education and entertainment through the incorporation of the popular Japanese culture of Manga. It is currently run by volunteer staff made up of local and international students from the university. The library is modelled on the concept of Japanese internet cafés (manga kissa), and provides a unique environment and opportunity within Melbourne to access Japanese popular culture, offering an extensive collection of over 7,000 Japanese Manga and other related texts such as magazines, novels and research material.
Various events and projects are also held occasionally throughout the year including manga translation workshops and participation in local festivals such as the Box Hill Japan Festival and local comic and anime festivals. Please refer to the Upcoming Notices list on the homepage for upcoming events and the translation workshop page and past events page for further information on projects, symposiums and guest appearances that have taken place as well as past festival reports.
The Japanese Studies Centre, is an research facility that promotes academic study and cultural exchange between Japan and Australia. It does not run language classes, but it often hosts seminars and lecturers that are open to the public. Please refer to their site for details.

We're located inside the Japanese Studies Centre (building 54) of Monash University, Clayton campus, which is on the corner of Wellington Road and Princes Highway in the suburb of Clayton, Victoria, Australia. If you're driving to Clayton campus, see maps 70 (reference G10) and 475 in the Melways street directory. Allow about 30 minutes from the city. Ticketed parking is available by entering off Wellington Road. Students and staff of Monash can also buy permit parking. Please refer to the Monash website for details.
To get to Clayton campus by public transport, take any of the Dandenong, Pakenham or Cranbourne line trains to Huntingdale station then turn left in the station exit tunnel, cross the road and catch either the 900 (Stud Park) or 630 (Monash University) bus to the Monash University Bus Interchange. Buses leave the station for Clayton campus roughly every 15-20 minutes.
Because we are right next to a major bus terminal there are also many buses you can take from various parts of Melbourne. The Metlink website has a searchable database of trains, trams and buses, just put your starting point in the "from" field and "Monash University (Clayton)" in the "To" field.
ACCESS NOTE: Please enter by the Manga Library door on the side of the building to the left of the main entrance so as not to disturb the researchers in the Japanese Studies Centre. Thank you.
