The local group is responsible for the installation and maintenance of locally installed software on yoyo. This consists of all the software under the /usr/local hierarchy.

Users are encouraged to contact the local group if there is some software they wish installed, rather then installing a copy in their own directory. This means that there won't be several users who each have their own individual copy of a program.
